Community Groups
Here at Home Birth Aotearoa Trust, we find it very important to connect expectant mothers who are interested in home birthing to home birth community groups so that they can gain support and information surrounding natural home births.
Home Birth Midwives
The Maternity system in New Zealand is based on the concept of having a Lead Maternity Carer (LMC) who provides your maternity care, including care for you and your baby during pregnancy, attending your birth, and monitoring & supporting you and your baby up to 6 weeks after the birth. An LMC can be a midwife, GP or obstetrician. LMCs midwives are contracted through Te Whatu Ora to provide a complete maternity service.
Student Midwife Information
You may want to include a student midwife in your home birth journey. It would be an incredibly valuable experience for our future midwives to witness and actively participate in a home birth, and there would be an experienced midwife leading the process, so you would have nothing to worry about.
Home Birth Aotearoa Trust
We are a charitable trust that was formed in 2007. We are a national organisation and have a contract with the Ministry of Health to promote home birth as a safe choice for women. We support and celebrate home birth, and provide birthing women and whanau with information about the home birth option.
