Kaupapa Māori Antenatal and Kaiāwhina Education

May 15 @ 9:00 am - May 17 @ 3:00 pm

This is a FREE course, but only to those living in the Hutt Valley as it is funded by the HVDHB.

Kaupapa Māori Antenatal and Kaiāwhina Education (M.A.K.E) is a hui for pregnant māori women and their whānau support, a compact course held on a marae or elsewhere in the community.

birthEd Kaiāwhina draws from today’s Māori culture, incorporating ancestral māori cultural birth stories, beliefs and connection through whakapapa and genealogy.

The course will share current childbirth and early parenting knowledge, along with key baby safety messages. Weaving kono (open basket) and birth tie for birth cord is offered over three days alongside the info sharing.  It empowers women to make informed decisions for themselves and their unborn babies. Partners, have their own break-away session to discuss the “what if stuff” while making Ipu Whenua, container for the afterbirth.

We have experienced passionate Kaiāwhina from all walks of life, to teach about your most life changing event – becoming a mother, parent and whānau.
